Background of the study:
Traditional divination practices in Nsukka have been integral to community decision-making for generations. These practices, involving ritualistic consultation and symbolic interpretation, guide personal and communal choices (Chukwuemeka, 2023). Despite rapid modernization, many community members continue to rely on divination for conflict resolution, health matters, and social planning. The persistence of these practices highlights their relevance in addressing uncertainties and maintaining cultural continuity. Recent investigations reveal that traditional divination remains a trusted source of insight amid contemporary challenges, offering guidance that complements formal decision-making processes (Nnadi, 2024). This study explores the impact of divination on decision-making processes and its interplay with modern rational approaches, aiming to understand how cultural heritage influences everyday choices in a changing world.

Statement of the problem:
Traditional divination practices in Nsukka are increasingly at odds with modern decision-making frameworks. As rational, evidence-based approaches dominate public policy and personal choices, the influence of divination is often questioned. This disconnect has created challenges in integrating traditional wisdom with modern practices. The study aims to identify the extent of divination’s impact on decision-making and the barriers to its acceptance in contemporary society (Chukwuemeka, 2023).

Objectives of the study:

  1. To evaluate the role of traditional divination in local decision-making.

  2. To assess the perceptions of divination among community members.

  3. To recommend strategies for integrating traditional wisdom with modern practices.

Research questions:

  1. How does traditional divination influence decision-making processes in Nsukka?

  2. What are community perceptions of divination in modern contexts?

  3. How can traditional and modern decision-making frameworks be harmonized?

Research Hypotheses:

  1. Traditional divination has a significant influence on community decisions.

  2. Modern decision-making processes undervalue indigenous divination practices.

  3. Integrative approaches can enhance the efficacy of local decision-making.

Significance of the study:
The study offers critical insights into the impact of traditional divination on decision-making, bridging cultural heritage with modern governance. It is valuable for community leaders and policymakers seeking to integrate indigenous wisdom in daily practices (Chukwuemeka, 2023).

Scope and limitations of the study:
This research is limited to examining traditional divination practices and their influence on decision-making within Nsukka Local Government only, excluding other localities.

Definitions of terms:
Divination: The practice of seeking knowledge through supernatural means.
Decision-Making: The process of making choices by identifying a decision, gathering information, and assessing alternative resolutions.
Integration: Combining traditional practices with modern methods.
